Bakuchiol - the natural alternative to retinol

09 Mar 2020

What is Bakuchiol?

Bakuchiol is all the rage in skincare products and why wouldn’t it be? Touted to be nature’s retinol, it is derived from the babchi plant. While its composition is different from retinol, it behaves similarly when applied topically but is gentler on the skin while still being just as effective as retinol.

Retinol is the gold standard for anti-aging ingredients in conventional products. It stimulates collagen production, boosts cell turnover, fights acne while reducing wrinkles, fine lines, and dark spots. It promotes an even skin tone and restores elasticity and resilience to skin cell structure. While this all sounds amazing, it does come at a cost. Retinol can be extremely irritating to the skin causing extreme dryness, peeling, flaking, redness, irritation, and even sun sensitivity. It has serious limitations in terms of use – you can’t use it if you are pregnant, nursing, or even if you have sensitive skin.

Is Bakuchiol safe?

All these drawbacks of retinol makes it easy to understand the increasing popularity of Bakuchiol. It offers all the benefits of retinol with none of the side effects. It is a powerful botanical ingredient derived from a plant that is a staple in both Chinese and Ayurvedic medicine. 100% natural, it has a wide range impact on the health and vitality of your skin. Regular use of bakuchiol results in a decrease in fine lines and wrinkles, roughness, and dryness. It boosts skin elasticity and collagen production to provide potent anti-aging benefits.

Bakuchiol makes your skin wonderfully soft and smooth with an even texture and tone. While it firms up your skin and improves clarity, it doesn’t cause any irritation whatsoever even in sensitive skin. It is particularly effective for hyperpigmentation and has antibacterial properties as well making it useful in the fight against acne and for those with oily skin since it helps ease these conditions with gentleness and without drying skin out.

We highly recommend incorporating Bakuchiol into your daily skincare regimes – you’ll see a whole host of benefits and don’t have to worry about any side effects. If this sounds like something you’re interested in (and why wouldn’t anyone not be!)

Gentle enough for the most sensitive skin types, and even pregnant women, Bakuchiol works both below the skin with its retinoic effect and above the skin with ultra-gentle, exfoliating Polyhydroxy Acids (PHAs) to refine the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles with the power of natural botanicals.
