Tea and Tannins

The benefits of Tea

Move over coffee – today we talk about the world’s most popular drink – tea! Discovered in China more than 5,000 years ago, this drink surprisingly has almost as many benefits when used topically, specifically black tea which is rich in tannins. These tannins are what give black tea its characteristic dark hue and also its antioxidant properties.

The benefits of Tannins

Black tea contains vitamins B2, C, E, and minerals like magnesium, potassium, and zinc. It also contains some essential oils, polyphenols, and of course tannins. The high content of antioxidants like tannins improve skin regeneration and give life to dull, lifeless skin while also improving blood circulation and eliminating toxins and impurities. Tannins also protect from environmental damage while killing bacteria on the skin.

Polyphenols and antioxidants in black tea protect your skin from premature aging and formation of fine lines and wrinkles. It also boosts production of collagen which can restore the elasticity of skin. It can minimize the appearance of dark spots and hyperpigmentation caused by harmful UV radiation. It also protects from further sun damage by acting as a blocking agent against UV rays.

Black tea acts as a natural astringent to cool and tighten the skin on your face. It helps reduce pore size and prevents the formation of black and whiteheads. It also reduces acne, breakouts, and blisters while evening out skin tone. Rich in vitamin C and E, it brightens your skin and repairs it powerfully.

The thiamine in black tea helps manage puffiness and dark circles. Being anti-inflammatory and vasoconstrictive, it reduces swelling and redness. Intensely hydrating, it removes the fine lines in this delicate area and also helps with microcirculation of blood which helps decrease dark circles under eyes. Great for hair as well, black tea is also useful as a natural dye instead of toxic chemical dyes.

Its ability to block DHT, which is the hormone responsible for hair loss, makes it a great ingredient for those struggling with hair loss. It can reduce hair loss in as little as 2 weeks while also stimulating hair follicles to ensure stronger hair growth. It also hydrates hair and nourishes it adding luster to lifeless and damaged hair. This leaves hair shiny, softer, and easier to manage.

Don’t just drink this wonderful tea, use it topically as well to get the best out of it!
