What is Malic Acid and is it good for you?
Alpha Hydroxy Acids are increasingly being used in beauty care products. Glycolic and salicylic acids are commonly known and used ones. However, there are increasingly lesser known AHA’s being used these days. One of these is Malic Acid. Commonly found in apples, malic acid is a part of a family of fruit acids which are used to improve the health of skin.
Malic acid has the ability to brighten skin tone and improve the texture of skin. By improving the texture of skin, malic acid can reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. It works by sloughing away the outer layer of skin cells. In doing this, it exfoliates the skin of buildup and pore-clogging impurities. It also stimulates the production of ceramides and penetrates the skin to support collagen production which restores the vitality, suppleness, and elasticity of skin.
While those properties make it a wonderful ingredient in anti-aging products, malic acid does much more.
